My Grandmother's house was but a few steps away and Gran
is never far from my thoughts today.   As a child I visited
every day.  I walked from school to have dinner with Gran.
I helped with chores and  whenever possible I cuddled in for
a good nights sleep on the big straw mattress upstairs.
A special memory was the planting of my Grandmother's garden.
Just a sprinkle of seeds in the spring would grow into a
beautiful summer garden.  Flowers by the side of the house
,
vegetables in the long rows of rich soil along the hillside
, soon
produced a bounty of colour and chores.
Grandmother always wore the full feed sack aprons and
hand in hand we would walk to gather the vegetables for
supper from the garden.  Gran gathered the ends of her apron
and we would fill with beans, lettuce and cucumbers.

My Flower Garden Penny Rug has those memories in the stitches.
Stories from my past come to me as I stitch a rug.
These stitches hold special memories and I'm sure I will regret
parting with this rug but if one cannot enjoy the rug each day then
it is time to let it go.  I will always have the memories of my
Grandmother's Gardens.
Each penny represents a bouquet of flowers...the colours I
remembered from my Grandmother's gardens.
Floss was used as thread to accent the shade of wool flowers
and a simple cotton lining gives this rug the finishing touch.

A beautiful rug, Grandmother would have been pleased.
